When you choose natural skincare, you’re choosing vibrant plant actives and minimal, skin-kind preservatives. That’s why Skin Alchemy formulas feel so fresh and alive—yet they also appreciate a little extra care. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your products performing beautifully from the first pump to the last drop.
Do’s & Don’ts (with quick explanations)
DO keep containers tightly sealed
Air degrades delicate botanicals over time. Open only to dispense what you need and close immediately.
DON’T expose products to direct sunlight
UV can break down natural pigments and actives. Store in a cool, shaded spot—think cabinet or drawer, not a sunny vanity.
DO keep a stable, cool temperature
Room-temperature consistency is ideal. You can refrigerate mists/hydrosols for a soothing chill, but avoid the fridge for oils, balms, and emulsions—condensation and temperature swings can affect texture and stability.
DON’T store products in the bathroom
Steam and fluctuating humidity increase the risk of contamination and spoilage, especially for jarred products. A bedroom dresser or linen closet works beautifully.
DO use clean, dry hands—or a spatula
Water + jars don’t mix. Use dry hands or a clean spatula to keep your blends pristine.
Storage by Product Type
Cleansing balms & face oils (e.g., Passionfruit Cleansing Melt, Blue Cica / Arctic Berry Radiance Oil)
Store in a cool cabinet, lids tight, away from light. Slight color softening over months can be normal; a crayon-like or rancid odor is not.
Creams & lotions
Keep cool and dark. Don’t refrigerate. If you notice mild separation, close and gently shake/roll; if it persists, contact us.
Hydrosols, essences & mists (e.g., Blue Lavender Tranquility Face Mist)
Cabinet storage is great; fridge is optional for a calming feel. Use within the recommended period after opening.
Powdered/dry formulas (e.g., Vitamin C Cleansing Powder)
Keep very dry. Cap tightly and avoid dipping damp tools. Hydrate a portion in a separate bowl—never inside the jar.
Clay/gel masks (water-rich)
Store in a cool cabinet. Use a clean spatula; never add water into the jar (hydrate what you’ll use in a separate dish).
Shelf Life & Labels: How to Read Yours
Look for the PAO symbol (Period After Opening) on the label—e.g., “6M” means “use within 6 months after opening.” We also include a batch number for freshness tracking. Pro tip: jot your open date on the cap or outer box so you’ll know when to repurchase.
Natural Variation: What’s Normal vs. Not
Normal:
-
Subtle scent variations from batch to batch
-
Slight color shifts over time
-
Minor texture changes with seasons
Not normal (please stop using and contact us):
-
Sour or rancid odor
-
Visible mold or unexpected speckling
-
Significant separation that doesn’t resolve with gentle mixing
-
New stinging/burning that isn’t typical for your skin
If Your Package Arrives Warm or Cold
-
Warm/melted balm? Close tightly and let it re-solidify at room temperature for 24 hours.
-
Cold/thick cream? Allow to slowly warm to room temperature before first use.
These shifts are cosmetic; performance returns once the product stabilizes.
Usage Tips for Happier Skin
-
Patch test new products on the inner forearm or behind the ear for 24 hours.
-
Introduce actives one at a time and start 2–3x/week, then increase as tolerated.
-
Simple layering: Cleanse → Treat (serum/nectar) → Seal (cream or oil). SPF each morning.
